Here are some frequently asked questions that I get asked - I hope this helps!
Q. Do I have to have a provisional licence before I start learning?
A. Yes! Here's some more information - click HERE
Q. Do I have to pass my theory before learning to drive?
A. No! You can start learning to drive as soon as you have your provisional licence. We can support you with your theory though. * There is a significant backlog in practical testing due to the Pandemic. The wait for a practical test is currently around 24 weeks, so it is highly recommended that whilst waiting for an instructor to have space for your lessons that you work towards your theory test, as this will significantly help when it comes to booking your practical test.
Q. Will I be able to choose my instructor?
A. No. I am currently the only instructor within my company.
Q. How do I know my instructor is 'real'?
A. Your instructor is an Approved Driving Instructor and will display a green badge in their windscreen.
You can ask your instructor to see their badge and they will be happy to show you.
Legally any instructor must display this badge whilst teaching (and being paid to teach). If your instructor does not have a badge, please ask to see it. If they cannot show you, consider reporting this to the DVSA as it is illegal.
Q. Will I have the same instructor every lesson?
A. Yes.
Q. What will happen on my first lesson? What do I need to bring?
A. Please check out my page HERE which explains everything you need to know about your first lesson
Q. How many lessons do I need? How often should I have lessons?
A. The DVSA recommend you have around 45 hours of lessons. This will depend on how quickly you learn and how often you have lessons. How often you have lessons will depend on your availability and finances. Students usually have lessons weekly. Some choose to have more than one lesson a week, and some choose to have lessons fortnightly. How often you have lessons is completely up to you! Lessons are usually 2 hours long - this enables more time to work on the lesson goal/s. Occasionally I can do longer lessons for various reasons - if you would like a longer lesson, please talk to me.
Q. What areas do you cover?
A. I cover Westbury, Warminster, Beckington and Trowbridge and select villages in between. Take a look at my map showing the are I cover HERE.
Q. How much do you charge?
A. My current prices can be found HERE.
Q. How do I pay for my lessons?
A. You can pay by cash, bank transfer, or gift voucher. All lessons must be paid for in advance.
Q. Can I buy lessons as a present for someone?
A. Yes of course! Please message me HERE. I can send a gift certificate to you, or send it directly to recipient in a nice card/envelope.
Q. How do I cancel my lesson?
A. You must contact me directly to cancel and rearrange your lesson. Please give me a minimum of 24 hours notice to cancel, otherwise I may have to charge you for cancelling at short notice.
Q. Do you have terms & conditions?
A. Yes, please click HERE.
Q. What cars do you have?
A. You can see details about my car HERE.
Q. What types of support do you offer?
A. I can help -
~ Younger or older drivers
~ Those who are particularly nervous or have bad anxiety
~ Those with additional needs such as dyspraxia, dyslexia, and more
~ Those who have already passed their test and would like refresher lessons
~ Motorway lessons
~ Theory training
If there's anything else you'd like support with that's not listed here, please do get in touch.
Q. Do you do intensive courses?
A. I do not offer intensive courses where you drive for 8 hours a day over 5 days, for various reasons. I often find students do not learn best this way. Learning to drive can be overwhelming and it's a lot to take in. You'll lack overall driving experience and confidence and the pressure of learning can be too much.
Q. Can I drive on a motorway as a learner driver?
A. Yes! However, you must be with an Approved Driving Instructor in a car fitted with dual controls. You MUST NOT drive on a motorway with a trainee driving instructor, or with friends or family.
Q. When can I book my driving test?
A. This will vary from student to student. Your instructor will discuss with you when you will likely be ready for your test.
Q. Why should I choose Confident Driving School?
A. I am an experienced and passionate driving instructor who genuinely cares about supporting you to learn to drive and develop your skills. I have had many hours of training and continue to do CPD to be the best I can be.
I offer affordable prices and I am well known and reputable in our local area. I am able to support students with different needs, and will always be honest with you.
I will always support you with anything you need - whether it's theory support, practical driving lessons, or something else.
I'd love for you to have a lesson with me to see how you feel - and I'd be delighted if you are happy and wish to continue learning to drive with me! But I won't be offended if you choose to learn to drive somewhere else - I appreciate that not every instructor suits every student. If you feel I am not best suited to your needs, please let me know.
Q. I'm scared of crashing your car!
A. Don't worry! I have the appropriate driving instructor insurance and as an instructor, I know that it is inevitable that accidents, bumps, and scratches will happen at some point. I have dual controls and will do my best to prevent any incidents from happening in the first place. IF an incident does happen for whatever reason, I will stay calm, and will not be angry. You will not be charged for the damage (unless you were purposely driving dangerously and ignoring my instructions). Any incidents that happen can be claimed through my instructor insurance - so it's not a problem! I will reassure you and make sure that you are ok - you are my priority!
Q. Can I learn to drive with friends or family?
A. Yes! However, you must meet all of the legal requirements.
~ Your supervising driver must be 21 years or over
~ Your supervising driver must have held a valid UK driving licence for 3+ years
~ Your supervising driver must follow the same rules as if they were driving - no using mobile phones, drinking, taking drugs, etc.
~ You must have visible L plates on the front and rear of your car
~ Your car must have tax and an MOT (where required), and be legal and roadworthy
~ You must have the appropriate insurance. Our recommendations include Marmalade or Collingwood. Using my code '758603' with these companies will give you a discount on your insurance
~ You must have an additional mirror fitted for the examiner if you wish to take your car to your driving test. Please ensure that your own insurance is valid whilst taking your driving test and ensure that your accompanying driver drives you home following your test, regardless of if you pass or fail. If you pass your learner insurance is no longer valid and if you fail you will not be paying full attention to the road.
Q. What happens if I don't like my instructor, or have a complaint?
A. If you aren't getting on with your instructor for whatever reason, please contact me as soon as possible. At Confident Driving School I will always do my best to put things right immediately.
Q. I still have a question...
A. Please contact me HERE if none of the above helps*
